OK, so I've been hearing people talking about this Dreamwidth thing. What is Dreamwidth?

It's the brainchild of [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic and [livejournal.com profile] xb95 -- it's a journalling site which is based on the Livejournal code but with a lot of modifications and tidying up (for example, at Dreamwidth your friends list is split into "people whose journals you subscribe to" and "people you allow to see your locked content", a distinction which doesn't exist on LJ).

The project has been in development since last year -- I think they started talking seriously about it in the aftermath of strikethrough 2008. It's in closed beta right now, but they've started issuing a lot more invite codes in the last week, so the number of people creating accounts there is suddenly increasing. They're planning to move to open beta on 30/4, at which point anyone will be able to create a paid account (starting at $3 per month), although at that point there will be lots and lots of invite codes floating around, so it'll be very possible to create an account without having to pay.

Here's a post with some more info (http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/320377.html#cutid1).

I've moved there -- with that account syndicated here as [livejournal.com profile] twistedchickdw so you can still read what I post if you want.
Dreamwidth has a lot of features I like, and is going to have more when it's out of beta.

In recent encounters with SUP online, it's been made plain that LJ users who have been around for a while (such as those of us who started in about 2002, before Six Apart) aren't their primary target and will generally be ignored in any issue that arises. I don't trust SUP as far as I could throw Europe. I do trust Syn and her crew to be honest and upfront, and to provide good service -- and to understand the issues.

If you'd like an invite code I'll add you to my list for whenever they make more available. An invite code will get you a free account, which can be upgraded or not as you wish.
