On DSL

Open question for anyone out there who's using DSL. What sort of equipment do you have to make the connection? I know there's something or other that plugs into the phone line, but beyond that, I walk among the clueless.

(My only hands-on experience with Internet to date has been through dialup, cable modems, and LANs provided by others; the only broadband option in Athens is DSL.)

Between myself and my family here in Athens, we've been trying to get a phone line installed in my apartment since ... well, since about the 11th of January. Today, we finally got an appointment to install the phone line.

On March 15.

January 11 - March 15 ... over two months. And that's for the phone line; no telling how much longer after that I'll have to wait to get DSL installed.

Think my journal may need a new tag.

There's gotta be a name for this phenomenon.

It's gotta be some weird sub-regulation of Murphy's Law. What do you call it when you have a water leak bad enough to flood your kitchen, but when you call a plumber to deal with it, the leak spontaneously seals itself or something?

*sigh* It's been that kind of a month.
