I shoveled the driveway this afternoon - managed to blast my car out of its parking spot where it had been snowed in. Hit the roads to check something - bad move. Roads were nearly impassable. Nearly, but not quite - I got out and back safely, though I did have an interesting time starting at a traffic light while facing uphill. Spun my wheels for about 20 seconds before they grabbed.

Folks went to the opera in the City tonight ... braved the snow to do so. Now, at 5:30, the driveway was shoveled and passable. Sometime between then and 12:30 the plows cruised through again.

12:30 I get a call. Folks are in the driveway. They tried to blast through the snowdrift and the Prius got stuck. Electric cars are a wonder, but not designed for heavy snow.

So, half an hour of shoveling later, the car got dug out, the drift got cleared enough to get the electric car into the driveway, and here I am.

Kid brother comes home tomorrow. Before he can get into the driveway, I have to get approximately two hundred cubic feet of snow out of the way.

*sigh* It's gonna be a long day.

At 12:30am, the folks came back and got wedged in a snowbank. Turns out that at the time, the kid brother was en route from DC, following what looked to be the trailing edge of the storm. He got in at 3, shoveled out enough to get his car in, and got the car wedged.

I woke up at 10 and grabbed a shovel to dig. No breakfast, no shower, no nothing. Moved ... oh, about ten feet by six feet by two feet. Hundred twenty cubic feet of snow. And that's not even half the job.

Resting now. Gotta keep digging. Gotta study.

Snow is cool to a degree. At these levels, it bites.

It's gonna be a hell of a day.

There's good airline food out there. Really. I've heard rumors.

I've tasted airline food that probably would be put to better use in a caulking gun, though.

I'm sure this guy agreed. But what did he expect, the airline would just calmly allow him to cook up a mixed grill at 35 thousand feet?

Close entry.
