Ups and downs

Most of this entry is going to be kinda blah and miserable, so let me lead off with the good stuff:

Major congratulations to nycdeb! For the nitty-gritty, see her journal, but here's wishing many years of happiness and bliss and what have you!

OK, now that's out of the way:

At some point or other, nearly everyone in the office seems to have been hit by some sort of bug, cold or flu or what have you, and now it's my turn. Was feeling crummy Thursday and Friday, thought I might have been a little bit recovered Saturday, but Sunday I started spiking a fever. Bright side: I'm getting practical experience with converting Celsius temperatures to Fahrenheit on the fly. Down side: learning just how high 38.1 C can be.

Tried tea with honey, and couldn't really stand it. Guess tea is another of those tastes I've never acquired, like coffee or chocolate. On the other hand, chicken broth seems to work out nicely, and I'm not alone in dealing with this; my aunt sent over some fresh chicken soup.

Oh, and after an almost balmy February, March is suddenly doing its best impression of depth-of-winter in Athens. Temps around 37 degrees ... Fahrenheit, that is. Maybe 2 or 3 degrees C. I'm still working on doing the conversion scales at that end.

Greeks don't have Groundhog Day. Which might be just as well, because the groundhog probably wouldn't last past the first time it saw its shadow.

< hugs > Sorry you feel so bad; being sick with a fever is No Fun.

Have you only been drinking black tea? You might try green tea or camomile if you haven't already and if they're available -- I like those much better when I'm sick.

Thanks ... tried green tea with honey. I think the chicken broth may be a better bet for me. (Can't seem to find chamomile around here, for some reason - but then, it's been a long time since this neighborhood was the center of the civilized world, you know?)

Yeah, I was afraid they wouldn't have camomile. :( I hope you feel better soon and make it irrelevant.

Well, the fever just might be breaking, so that'd be a good sign. Down below 37.2 C ... whatever that is in Fahrenheit...

thanks muchly. I like the application of nitty-gritty. I think I shall now refer to the whole process as nupital nitty-gritty. Neil will be entertained and so will I. My mother perhaps not :-) But I think that's part of my job as bride-to-be - needling mother of the bride.

I had broth with lemon juice recommended to me; that might be good. Also, when I was a kid my mom used to give us hot Jello to drink when we'd just come in from playing in the cold or something. So it might be a hot drink change of pace.
