You've got a holiday named after "no". How do you not understand the meaning of the word?

Yesterday, on the way home from work:

Skeeve: "Hey, mister, can I ask you something? I've got this great watch that I'm selling--
Me: (pulling up jacket sleeve to show watch on wrist) "I've already got one."
Skeeve: "No, this is a much better watch, cheaper, you really want this watch - hey, don't walk away from me - hey, mister, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?"

Some days, I swear, this country needs to cut down on the mushrooms.
