Batten down the hatches.
Nov. 17th, 2009 12:28 pmToday marks the anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising against the Greek junta of 1967. Traditionally, the event is marked with a protest march from the Athens Polytechnic University to the U.S. Embassy (back then, Washington backed the junta; not nearly our finest hour).
Warning from the US Embassy: if you live in the Kolonaki or Ambelokipi neighborhoods, stay indoors from 4pm today to about 6am tomorrow. Message from the management at the office: head home between 3 and 4 and work from home if you can.
Given that my new place is only one block uphill from the main road that the protest marchers will probably be using, this does not bode well.
