Trivial stuff
Jan. 22nd, 2009 04:46 pmCame in this morning, and one of the partners was preparing for what looks to be a contentious meeting with a couple of corporations regarding fallout from the December riots. (Short version: one of our clients had a couple of stores torched in the riots, and there's a quarrel over whether rent must be paid while the premises are unfit for the agreed-upon purpose.) I wished her luck - the expression in Greek is «καλή επυτηχία», meaning "success", but I specifically wished her «καλή τύχη», literally "good luck", figuring she'd need luck for this one.
She asked me, by the by, what was the big deal wih some Britney Spears song she'd read about in the Greek papers. Apparently, there was a hue and a cry of objection to the lyric "if you seek Amy", which was changed to "if you see Amy". "Where's the problem?" she asked. I frowned, puzzled it over, and shrugged, writing it off as hypersensitive "moral guardians".
It took half an hour puttering around with other things before the penny dropped. And for some reason, I heard a voice in the back of my head, saying "okay, very interesting; could you skip ahead to the part of this that I'm supposed to care about?"
(I thought at first that was something that should have come from a Joss Whedon script, but I don't think it did. West Wing, maybe?)
