A day passes for each cycle between Athens and New York. The offices in Athens are closed for the afternoon just as the offices in New York open for business, and when the offices in New York close, it's way past bedtime in Athens.

Report from last night reached the office manager today (if the Senior Partner is captain of the ship, then the office manager is Chief of the Boat, keeping the place running).

Translated from the Greek:
Me: "I finally reached the fellow from the Consulate at about half-past ten last night. He said the papers aren't there."
OM: "How is that even possible?"

The date on my visa request case number was the 4th of February - that's the date that they acted on it. Even if they'd sat on the file for two weeks and then sent it across the ocean on a boat, it still should have been in New York a week ago.

A visit from the office manager to the Prefecture of Athens is on tap for today, with a request that the papers be faxed to the New York Consulate. So, if they act on it, the papers should be at the Consulate today.

Unless the fax gets re-routed through Pluto. Which wouldn't surprise me, given the competence I've seen from the bureaucrats so far.

And even with an eleven-light-hour round trip, the fax should still be in New York by the opening of business tomorrow...
