bonibaru has most of the latest on the firestorm that erupted over Firefly vids.

Basically, disclaimers and no-reposting-without-permission requests were ignored, the creators of vids in question asked that steps be taken to restore the status quo ante, requests were met with steadfast denial, ramping up into insults, and within a week, it has progressed to a vidder's site being knocked off by a report to the ISP hosting it.

This is, to me, the fandom equivalent of a thermonuclear attack.

And it worries me because it is not that big a leap from wiping out fanvid sites to wiping out fanfiction sites.

Can you see working two years on a fanfic, only to see it annihilated over a weekend because someone didn't like your attitude and turned you in to your ISP?

I don't like it, but I can see it happening.
