New task: translating high finance documents. Specifically, collateral accounts for stock purchases on margin. Bear in mind, I got lost during the trade-floor scene in "Trading Places".

The tripping point: terms of art for adding or removing assets from a portfolio. The Greek words are "δέσμευση" and "αποδέσμευση". Literal translation is "engagement" for the former, and either "disengagement" or "release" for the latter.

Anyone know these high finance terms? Any high finance terms, for that matter?

this is going to sound sarcastic but it is absolutely not - but why would the terms for the "adding or removing assets from a portfolio" be any more complicated than "buying" and "selling"?

Or do you mean, the overall act of portfolio management which involves the acts of buying and selling to meet specific goals and/or balances? I which case, you want terms like "asset allocation"

Dunno if this helps, but in ancient greek, that would mean bonds or fetters, and then something like 'lacking' or 'releasing' for αποδέσμευση.

I guess the reason "buy" and "sell" sound simplistic to me is that I get the sense that it would include transferring assets a client owns into this portfolio, which is used as collateral in case the client is hit with a margin call and doesn't have the cash to cover it.

Yeah, that's close to the modern Greek translation spit up by my dictionaries, and it led someone I consulted with to think maybe it related to freezing or releasing of assets. But somehow that doesn't ring right.
