Generation gap?

So after the Yankee game (eight in a row!), I cue up "School Reunion" on the DVR.

My dad asks me what's on, and I answer, "Doctor Who," as the show plays in the background.

"Doctor Who got taken over by the Limeys?" he asks.

*facepalm* How do you explain Doctor Who to someone who doesn't even know it originally came out of the BBC?

Two if you count Seven. But then, it's tough to introduce my dad to anything fannish; he's a pedant. (He nitpicked about the moment in the Firefly pilot when the Reaver ship passed close to Serenity in deep space, saying it was unrealistic for two ships to pass within visual range of one another out of the blue...)
