Y'know, for supposedly being created in the image of a perfect, loving, omnipotent being, we humans have got an awful lot of modes of failure.

Example: today, I went out to catch some air, do a couple of errands, and get a bite to eat. I clipped my phone and my little MP3 player (I've got some really odd psychological aversion to the actual iPod; I don't know what my problem is) to my waistband, grabbed a bag of laundry for dry-cleaning, and set out.

I got back, took off my jacket, unclipped my phone, and slowly realized something was wrong:

The MP3 player. Missing.

First thought: I'd been absent-minded and unclipped it and put it down somewhere and completely forgotten about it. Searched the apartment: no dice. Then I went out again, intent on retracing my steps, getting more and more hacked off at myself for having let the damn thing vanish under my nose--

--and then I noticed my right hand was shaking. And that aggravated me more, to the point that I was muttering to myself ... or more precisely, stuttering to myself, stammering, my mouth locking up while trying to form certain sounds.

Once, I mistook those for the signs of a nervous breakdown in progress. Now, the breakdown I worry about is more biochemical in nature.

As soon as I got back from Greece, I scheduled a checkup with the endocrinologist. That was a month ago. The appointment is the day after tomorrow. Can't say I'm looking forward to the results of this one.

(Oh, yeah: I found the MP3 player at the restaurant where I'd grabbed a bite of lunch. Turns out the clip had slipped off my waistband, and someone had put it behind the counter on the off-chance I'd come back to claim it. Which I did. Good fortune, or good samaritans? You tell me.)

Glad to hear your MP3 player was recovered (nice to know there's still some honest people in the world) and I hope you have good news from your appointment.
