Quick question

Am I like the last guy on earth to discover the Dresden Files? (Picked up Book 1 to read on the train from Chicago to New York, figuring I'd need some reading material that didn't depend on electrical power...)

I didn't know about them until the TV series, and haven't read any of them yet. (Despite having been friends with Jim Butcher's agent for over a decade. But then I haven't read most of her clients, including Laura Anne Gilman, who's a FOAF several times over. I suck.)

ahh. You'd like them, I think - the books strike me as a mixture of the better parts of Harry Potter with either Sam Spade or Spenser. (Haven't seen the TV series myself; grabbed the pilot while I was in Greece, but it's still sitting on the desktop hard drive there.)

Bob in the series: is he the same voyeuristic lech I saw in the books? *g*

He has a slight element of it, but the most common comparison I've seen from people who've read them is that he's very, very different. He's a ghost of an actual once-living human sorceror, which I'm given to understand isn't the case in the books.

Yeah, in the books I've read, he's more of a ... "pure spirit?" In Storm Front, I think Harry said he considered Bob to be his equivalent of a PC (since he can't use a computer; it's a running gag that Harry keeps getting Best Buy circulars in the mail).

Storm Front's actually an enjoyable read; I read it through the first time in something less than two hours. (Not in one sitting; I think I finished it off while catching my breath on a bench at the Art Institute last weekend...)
