Bureaucrats. Same the world over.

I take a course to keep my New York bar membership active, and then it turns out that I can't just submit my paperwork to the continuing-education people; no, I've got to fill out a specific form. Oh, and the request for that form has to be in writing, in the mail. So I did that, the next business day after the course was complete.

It took almost three weeks for the form to arrive.

Since I was packing for my little vacation in Chicago, I had to set it aside; the morning after I came back, I filled it out and sent it off. That was earlier this week. So I have to wait and see what happens.

In the meantime, I'm pretty sure that completes my obligations Stateside, so in theory, I'm free to head back to Athens and get back to work.

Notice the two big qualifying words in that sentence: "in theory". Because there's still no word on my work permit. I've been back a month already.

Vacation was nice. Going back home to being put on hold by the bureaucrats? Not so pleasant.
