The L (though it's not the first time I've traveled on it): maybe it's because I'm from New York, but the lack of provision for people standing up in the train cars was glaring. The NYC subways have overhead rails and often metal "straps" - partly where the term "straphanger" came from, I think - but not the L.

Chicago Museum of Science and Industry: good stuff. Interesting stuff. About the only thing I missed was getting inside the submarine.

Millenium Park and the reflective silver lima bean thing: also quite interesting. Not sure what to make of the bean, but it certainly attracted a lot of attention.

Have to say one thing: the weather? Absolutely perfect. (Especially if one dresses for the mercury and the wind.) Although there was one unnerving thing: something apparently caught fire to the northwest of the city, and a plume of smoke could be seen for miles in the absolutely clear sky. It brings to mind my view of the New York skyline on that one fateful day.

Don't forget the Art Institute, with Vincent's Starry Night and Seurat's Sunday Afternoon -- and much more.
