If you've posted Part One of a WIP (and then belatedly friends-locked it in case of constructive criticism that never materialized), and then you realized there were ways you could have improved it, is it considered uncouth to polish and repost Part One, or is it better to go back and edit the original post?

I'd say go and edit the original post, then do a new post to link to the edited post, mentioning that you edited it.
