Like the man said.

Booked a flight, Southwest from Islip to Chicago Midway, arriving Friday, May 11, at about four-thirty Central time. Planning to catch the Lakeshore Limited to New York late Sunday night, see what it's like to take a long-distance train trip.

When it comes right down to it, I've got time for it now, while I'm waiting for the paperwork to clear in Athens, and I have no idea if or when I'll have another chance to do so. (Plus I'm finally going to get my back pay from the firm.)

Still got some planning to do beyond "wing it". Museum of Science and Industry Saturday, I think. Got a week and a half to plan.

(Anyone have experience flying Southwest? Any suggestions for preparations for a two-and-a-half-hour flight?)

Southwest boards by 'who gets there first'. Earliest passenger to check in gets to board first and so on. No assigned seats. No chow but you do get drinks.

Places to see in Chicago:
Art Museum downtown (has the side benefit of being at the intersection marking the beginning of Route 66). Arms and Armor exhibit is great
Shedd Aquarium
Field Museum -Ya gotta say Hi! to Sue and its got some of the best Geology/Gem/Paleontology exhibits in this country.
The Big Bean (I forget what it's actually called)

Yay! Have fun! I'm glad you're taking the opportunity to get out there.

...Seconding what Perri's dad said. Definitely go say hi to Sue. :)
