bktheirregularLast day of February, traditionally the month of the year I hate above all others. March may be looking up a little - if only because they're supposed to put in a line of communication into my apartment on the 3rd.
The apartment itself is ... well, not exactly a New York penthouse, but not too bad. The last tenant used it as a dental surgery, but it doesn't show; I imagine my bed's about where the chair was. Windows on an air shaft, but a little light gets through. It's not a place where I'd especially enjoy being cooped up for long periods at the moment, but it'll do. Bedroom, living room, small bathroom, tiny kitchen. Still getting used to one quirk that's common here in Greece but I never saw back Stateside: the water heater's manually operated from a breaker in the fusebox. You can't just jump into the shower and get hot water; you've got to let the heater run for something like an hour, an hour and a half.
The desktop PC's working out OK for now. Once everything's together, it'll serve as a complete entertainment center, including CD and DVD player, plus a communications center once I can order the DSL line. A couple of weeks ago, I tried it out, using The Muppet Movie as a test.
Seemed to work out okay - except that the reason I chose that movie (usually a good way to kick out of a depressive slump, if temporarily) didn't work out. I found myself humming some of the themes from the movie when I went out that night ... well, after a fashion.
I was transposing them into minor keys.
Those of you who are musically inclined, try that sometime with something like "The Rainbow Connection" or "Hope Something Better Comes Along." They sound like funeral dirges when transposed into minor keys. Warning: do NOT try this if you're already in a crummy mood. You'll end up looking for a ditch to crawl into.
(Incidentally, I recall reading something about an episode of Babylon 5, where J. Michael Straczynski had asked the music composer to use the main theme of the series at one point, but transpose it into a minor key. I suspect the composer was humoring him when he altered the theme, because in the first three seasons at least, the theme was in minor keys...)
Hopefully, March'll be better. There's the phone line I mentioned already, and while my laptop may be dying, its successor is soon to be sent to me from New York. The sun's out, though the timing's bad for taking pictures.
