Communications lag
Feb. 9th, 2007 05:44 pmOn several levels, I feel like I'm stuck in some sort of time-warp here in Athens. Listen to a car radio, God alone knows what you'll find. Look around, and you'll find nineteenth-century buildings rubbing shoulders with industrial-blocky construction while tripping over artifices that went up back when the prevailing wisdom was that the sun was towed behind a real spiffy chariot every day.
Communicating with people Stateside is chancy at best - no telling whether my missives and emails are lost by spam traps or by seven, eight, nine, ten hour time-zone differentials.
And I know I'm far from up-to-date on what's hip and what's yesterday's news, culturally speaking, but they're playing the Macarena on a big speaker system in Plateia Syntagma, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that song die about seven years back?
