The vote fulfilled a court mandate to provide equal rights to gays and lesbians but frustrated people on both sides of the issue.
Oddly enough, it's that last part that gives me hope. If you can't make both sides happy (and in this case, that's about two jumps on the far side of impossible), the best you can hope for is a solution that leaves nobody satisfied.
(Can't wait for when a Scientologist gets elected to a major office. There's gonna be some real brawls then.)
