I'm sorry. I needed baseball as a salve, something to reassure me that there was at least some part of the world that wasn't totally frelled.

For me, that means the New York Yankees.

And it looked good, until the middle of the third inning.

I know, I know, there are people who consider the New York Yankees to be the Evil Empire, but I'm sorry, they're my hometown team, and I was rooting for them in the bad times, so when they finally won in '96, I felt good about it.

Derek Jeter just got knocked out of the game. Dislocated or separated his shoulder sliding into third.

God, even the Yankees are frelled... what's left?

Quite frankly, the Mets are not a team that inspires hope, and haven't been for a couple of years. I follow out of interest, but my heart's with the Yankees. Heck, my mom learned half her English from Phil Rizzuto.

And it takes something special to be a Cubs fan.
