On the terror thing

One: I'm glad it didn't happen.

Two: Does anybody else in the United States remember the other three hundred and seventy-eight times the Terror Alert got jacked up to red? Wasn't so long ago that it was happening pretty much every third day or so. (Though shutting down Heathrow may prove a better indicator of the seriousness of this thing than anything coming out of the Ministry of Homeland Security.)

Three: I hope the panic-reaction carryon restrictions don't spread to the Athens airport and remain in force until the end of September. Because me, trusting my laptop and other electronic sundries to the baggage handlers here? Not. Happening.

In any event, going to leave an extra hour to get to Piraeus to catch the boat tomorrow. If I don't need it, I'll use the time to scarf down a souvlaki.

*has been a very bad friend for not calling* Assuming nothing ELSE blows up at work this week and I don't have further reason to smack a coworker, I'll try to call you. Been wrapped up in my own stuff too much lately.

I know I wouldn't be so leery of the panic-reaction restrictions if there were any guarantees or coverage to keep baggage handlers from destroying your stuff or losing it. (I still vividly remember watching baggage handlers practically drop-kick checked bags into the airplane coming back from Ireland and thinking, "Damn, I'm glad I've got all the Waterford crystal on my back right now." Hope the restrictions do ease off by the time you head back.

'Sokay. The thing I had which supposedly allowed me to receive calls here from my New York number? Not exactly working, especially 'cause I don't have a reliable connection to the 'net while the US of A is awake. Can't really ask people to call me up to chat on a phone in country code +30, after all.
