Ad hoc update
Jul. 23rd, 2006 02:36 pmPosting from an Internet cafe in Piraeus, because it was handy. Slept 12 hours last night, which may help with the jet lag some - I hope.
Internship starts tomorrow. Updates will be sporadic until I can get some sort of regular net access - which I need here, because I've got a job hunt to worry about back in NYC on top of everything else, and communicating over the net is not exactly a luxury.
Mobile phone is now working here. However ... the New York number which should have been able to reach me, or from which I should have been able to get voice mail, won't be functional until I can get a solid net connection.
Bright and sunny in Athens, and rather hot. Getting a feel for the city - dinner in Kolonaki Square last night, walking distance. In years past, Athens has been pretty much just a way-station along the way to the islands. Not this time. It's different when this place is the end of the line, so to speak.
Internship begins tomorrow. The Senior Partner (as far as you can get from W&H; she's actually my cousin-in-law, if there is such a word) informed me that the office opens sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 (which is 3:00am Eastern time, 12 midnight Pacific; if anyone's up at that hour, send some good vibes my way, 'kay?); I plan to be there at about 9:00. Didn't ask the dress code; I'm wearing a suit. If I'm overdressed, I'll adjust.
Signing off now to catch the metro back from Piraeus to the Kentro.
