State of the irregular
Mar. 20th, 2006 05:14 pmBeen a while since I put anything up here. So, what's with the me, you might ask? (More likely, you're asking, why doesn't he shut up? But that's another blog entry entirely.)
Moving date is April 13. Spent some time looking for furnishings which would work okay in a confined space. Lots of window-shopping at Ikea, actually; went to one other place and got treated with a measure of derision for my requirements, plus got a certain amount of shock at looking at a computer desk that ran somewhere in the neighborhood of three grand (I've bought cars for less, thank you very much). Lots of things to do in the meanwhile. Gotta arrange for telephone and cable TV (antennas would be kinda problematic, and satellite even more so; no TV would equal baseball withdrawal for half the household).
There are up-sides, though. Little things. The view from the place is to die for; looking out over the Queensboro Bridge (remember the original Spider-Man movie? The bridge at the end battle, with the cable cars? That bridge, those cable cars), with views out over Manhattan, looking to Central Park and south and west. On-site gym is in the tower next door, free for residents' use; maybe I can finally shed those persistent six or seven pounds that keep ignoring my eviction notice.
Oh, and apparently the University provides free broadband to both towers. So theoretically, all I should need to do is plug in the router, power up the laptop, and surf away.
Things seem to be coming together a little.
