Drabble: "Divine Wind"
Dec. 6th, 2005 06:16 pmTo jolt the muses a little. 100 words, in a futuristic, half-dystopian canon of my own.
---
"Slug's headed for New York."
"Figures. Can we hit it?"
"I'm locked on. Now eject."
"It'll jolt us. You might miss; and we're out of time."
"You're crazy, Sunfire."
"Yeah, but I'm also right. The Code, Jester."
"Understood. Lagrange, this is Sceptre Two-Eight, engaging. Our lives and sacred honor, for the Code."
"For the Code."
"Max power in two, one, eng-"
* * *
The Grand Caliph declared "Jester" Chan and "Sunfire" McKeegan apostates, and sentenced their families and children to death.
Jester's line ended with her; Sunfire's baby boy survived for him.
The Caliph is forgotten; Jester and Sunfire are not.
