Been working again for about a week now, and the sense is that this may be a fairly long-term gig. Hope it works out.
It means, though, that I kinda have to face up to a catch-22 in my mid-range planning. To wit:
I wanted to take a trip sometime this spring or early summer. I was thinking about revisiting Chicago - which was about the most fun time I had all of last year - but in order to do that, I'd have to have some money in the bank. Now, with no job, I wouldn't have been able to do it, but now that I've got a job that's bringing in income ... I can't see where I'd be able to free up the time to do it.
At least not until later in the year, when I might be able to finagle a few days off, because one day's travel, one day's visiting, one day's travel is no way to do a trip like that.
Still and all, things are going fairly okay. Working, getting bogged down in backstory for the writing thingamajig, tinkering with my computer (I think that now I've got it set up to be a credible TiVo-esque system, though without the quality you'd get from cable or satellite). Must also remember to get blank tape for tomorrow's Sci-Fi lineup (and also remember to negotiate time on the dish to do the actual recording).
Oh, and also I think I finally figured out why floppy disks are starting to go out of style. The other day, I did some writing, backstory on the fic thing. It was pretty good, I thought, even if only a few phrases' worth. Only thing was, it was written on a work computer, and saved to floppy disk.
The floppy went bad, and the snippet of writing went ka-flooie.
Grr. Arrgh.
