Good news (after a fashion)
Mar. 15th, 2005 02:02 pmTemp agency called up, and it looks like I've got administrative/legal work starting tomorrow, running for an indeterminate amount of time.
I'm wondering if it's a sign of the times that I consider it a pleasant surprise that I got one day's warning on the posting.
In any event, hopefully this will help break me out of the current anxiety/despair/depression vicious cycle.
Fic news: the PotC doodad is slowly beginning to take shape. Still working on Chapter One, bogged down because I've actually been doing quite a bit of world-building, sort of spinning out my own vision of the future Earth and environs, circa 2372. Which is also fun, because it's set in a world I've been trying to put together for a very long time.
It's also building a framework for The Big Honking Epic Science Fiction Story I've Been Trying to Write Since I Was Ten Years Old. (With several pauses to tear down and rebuild the premise.) Gotta be careful, though - thanks to a chance comment by
neonhummingbird, I got hooked on the Honor Harrington series and now have to be careful to be distinct from something that I've been reading a lot recently.
Except for one thing. The use of the term "impeller" for a non-Newtonian engine. I've been using that term since before I read the first HH book, so I'm keeping it. Different effect anyway.
With luck, job = energy = motivation to write.
Close entry.

Date: 2005-03-16 05:03 pm (UTC)The trick with 'Space Opera' isn't so much to come up with outstandingly new plots (they've all been done since Doc Smith); but, to present a good story with interesting characters in a consistent universe.
By the way I LIKE a well done Space Opera and always have.
