Yammering update
Feb. 5th, 2007 10:39 pmMore work today, and apparently I'm starting to see some trouble ahead: a Senior Partner is getting strident about when the current job is going to be finished, and at the same time, my landlord is demanding I take time out NOW to sign papers - when the Senior Partner's pressure means pretty much no free time to do it.
So, have to take time out of my evening to get things better organized. I now know more about the intricacies of leasing Boeing 737's than I wanted to.
On the bright side, the desktop machine which got borked this weekend might be salvageable after all. Replacement optical drive was pretty cheap, and it boots from CD's, so I was able to put together an emergency boot CD. As I type, repairs are proceeding on the hard disk, so by tomorrow, the thing might actually be back up and running. Knock on wood.
Also got told in no uncertain terms that when it comes time to get a DSL line, I shouldn't bargain-hunt, but rather stick with OTE (Οργανισμός Τηλεπικοινωνιών Ελλάδος, basically Greek for Ma Bell). All well and good, but I can't do a thing about it until there's an actual phone line in place, and who knows when that's going to be. On the bright side, OTE has competition these days, so there's some dis-incentive for them to sit on their thumbs and watch their paychecks roll in.
Are these updates doing any more than cluttering up people's f-lists?
