Huh.

Apparently the SG-1 Fanfic Awards are open, for about another week.

One interesting category: "The Seven Chevrons Award", for essential reading for Stargate fans everywhere.

I wish to go on record that I am nominating the three SG-1 stories of [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27: "The Midas Syndrome", "Roses in December," and "Totality", because, quite frankly, those three stories were essential reading for me when I was trying to create my own SG-1 story. "The Midas Syndrome", especially, is one of the best character pieces I've ever seen in that fandom. Or most any fandom, for that matter. (Although I still insist that pineapple is not a pizza topping. But that's just me.)

eta: Oops. Looks like the Seven Chevrons Award isn't open for nominations right at the moment. Someone remind me when they do?

Took today off - they're not paying me, so it's not like I'm losing money. (Actually saving money, since my brother was good enough to spring for lunch today.)

Also decided to indulge in shallowness; the National Security Advisor was testifying before the 9/11 Commission, and I decided that I should give her testimony the attention it deserved.

In other words, I whinged that her testimony would preempt the Yankees home opener.

FYI: it didn't. See current music.

ETA: discussions with the kid brother on what to do for dinner.

Him: "What to do for a vegetable?"
Me: "I'll get some corn."
Him: "That's a grain, not a vegetable."

Is it? I was always under the impression that corn was a legitimate veggie.

Night before last, or maybe the night before that, I got to bed very late after doing some tinkering that kept me up way way way too late. I'd been tossing and turning for several hours, when my cell phone gave a beep: incoming voicemail.

First thought: someone responded to that cell-phone voice mail meme.

Second thought: waitaminit, I didn't join that meme. So who the frack was calling me at four in the morning?

I pushed the button to dial my voice mail - best to get it out of the way so I could sleep - and my own voice came back to me, from a message I'd left for my dad a month ago.

Combine this with the fact that a text message I left for [livejournal.com profile] neonhummingbird three weeks ago popped up on her cell last week, I suspect that someone at Verizon is goofing around with a WABAC Machine.

Though it would be interesting if I were getting the 'Net through Verizon - that might be even more like time travel.
