Creative juices have run dry, or so I thought. Maybe they froze instead.

Temperature's down below freezing in the afternoon now, and snow is now coming down like it's making up for lost time. Could be interesting ... and in any case, I'm suddenly glad the family invested in a snow-blower. (And bought it when it was still shirtsleeve weather, natch.)

I've seen snow like this in New Hampshire, and in the District of Columbia.

In DC, in January 1994, one inch of snow did so much damage that the entire U.S. government was shut down for a week. I'm not kidding. The Russian navy could have sailed up the Potomac and they wouldn't have gotten a coherent reaction.

In New Hampshire, this much snow on a December afternoon would leave people pondering the age-old question:

"So when does the snow start?"

Anyone driving in the New York region:

BE CAREFUL.

I just came back from the bank and nearly got hit by a Toyota Camry that was in a flat spin going downhill, and ended up blowing a red light and stopping in the intersection ... going backwards.

If you drive a car with rear-wheel drive ... just don't. Check the fridge or look up Domino's. In the New York region, at least, it is not safe out there.

Annoyances

Sorry if this blog is turning into a massive gripe-fest these days, but ...

One of the jobs I'm submitting a resume for is with the New York City civil courts, and they say that in addition to the cover letter and resume, they want a UCS-5 Application for Employment Form. So I go to Google, type that out, and after a couple of dead links, find a PDF file, save it, and print it out.

Now, they're asking me to fill out all kinds of information, which is understandable. What's not understandable is that they're asking me to put a lot of information into a box that's just not ... frelling ... big enough to hold it. Under the past employment section, for example, they have a bit saying "Reason for leaving" ... and the box for each line is, I kid you not, less than one centimeter by two centimeters. There's just not enough real estate to write in.

I'm doing the best I can, though. There'll be some blanks they may ask me to fill in later. *sigh*

If they bother to even look at the thing.
