For those in the Chicagoland area: how far is Joliet from Chicago proper? Is it considered a suburb, or out in the boonies?

The real gist of the question is: if one were to take a trip out to Chicago, would a Motel 6 in Joliet be an appropriate place to lodge?

Not really. Not that I don't like Joliet, but it's at least an hour's drive, and that's when traffic is good. There's the Metra commuter train line, but... I'm thinking not going to work.
