Why I'm not joining the ribbon meme
Feb. 14th, 2004 06:40 pmWould do the thing with the rainbow marriage ribbon meme, except for a coupla things:
1: I want nothing to do with the four-letter L-word on this day.
2: If this country is going to hell, then I guarantee it won't be because of who is or is not allowed to get married.
I can just see trying to explain it to my kids ... "...but Daddy, why did it matter so much? Timmy can't bring lunch to school because he says his parents need to save money for Emily's medicine; Heather's grampa has to go to a sick home but he can't afford to; Neela got sent to the principal's office yesterday because she wouldn't say the Lord's Prayer before first period, and the teacher said she was going to hell, and she said that she was a Hindu, and the teacher called her an idolator; and Mahmoud's daddy got taken away by men in dark suits last week, and nobody will tell him or his mommy why..."
*sigh* You think I'm kidding?

FWIW, the thoughts are appreciated, but for me, at least, no explanation was required.
