Is it my imagination, or is Christmas advertising getting as bad as Valentine's Day advertising?

It's really just the diamond ones that are getting me so far, but that's been true much of the year. Yeah, I know they gotta be hurting in a lousy economy, but *please*...

My particular favorite is the one where the couple's in some European plaza and he starts announcing out loud how much he loves her. She makes him stop (presumably embarassed), so he pulls out a rock for her. She then falls all over him, saying "I love this man".

Frankly, this makes it sound like she doesn't even know his name, nor does she care. She just picked him up off some well-tailored European street and is engaged in some shady international love-for-diamonds trade cartel.
