I just realized I don't know what is the age range in which one is subject to Selective Service. I'm 32, my brother 27.

Unless things change, it's the ages at which guys have to register, 18-25. More details here (http://www.sss.gov/FSwho.htm).

Pretty crazy. When it was first brought up several months ago, I loved the senator who proposed it -- he wasn't proposing it as something he seriously expected his colleagues to pass, but as a reality check to point out that not one of them had a kid in enlisted service. They were sending their constituents' kids -- and a disproportionately high number of their low-income constituents' kids -- into the frying pan. To reinstate the draft would be to open their sons up to it.

This...gives me the heebies, because it looks serious. Ye gods, didn't we learn anything thirty years ago???
