1) The first words I ever spoke were witnessed and reported by a finalist for the Hugo Award.
2) I was once offered the helm of a sailboat belonging to a Greek regatta champion, and proceeded to pilot that boat between two Greek islands.
3) I once gave medical care to the family of a Nobel Prize winner.
4) I once successfully proved to my teacher that the dog ate my homework.
5) I once had dinner with a man who had walked on the moon.

Date: 2003-10-08 09:50 am (UTC)< looks sternly at Mr. Pessimist > We fought the Marlins tooth and nail in extra innings and only lost by a run. On a night when we were starting a guy who isn't our best pitcher, and he was not having his best night. And we still fought to a bloody end.

Date: 2003-10-08 10:33 am (UTC)Prior, thank god. Dusty willing and the crick don't rise, we can start both him and Wood twice. (Whether we should do this is an entirely different story, sadly.)

Date: 2003-10-08 10:44 am (UTC)And a small laugh, too, from old times: I recall an old New York subway board game called "Straphanger", which had as one of its special event cards:
"You arrive at the Yankee Stadium stop after the Yankees have lost a double-header. You're wearing a Red Sox cap.
"Lose one turn. And three pints of blood."
