Murphy strikes again
Oct. 2nd, 2009 07:13 pmSo, went over to the new place to talk with a plumber about the redesign of the kitchen. My aunt came along, to smooth over any translation problems.
Everything was OK, right up until we got into the elevator to head down to the lobby.
I may have mentioned it before, but one of the things I really hate about Greek elevator design is the way that the "door" end of the lift cage is open. It strikes me as a disaster waiting to happen, and I have nightmares about getting a hand guillotined off.
Thankfully, it wasn't my hand, this time.
It was the shoulder strap to my briefcase.
The door closed, I felt the strap (which had been hanging loose) tug a bit, and right as my aunt pushed the "lobby" button, I started yelling: "wait, wait, WAIT!"
Too late.
The briefcase got pulled up to the ceiling of the lift cage as I pounded buttons to try to get the elevator to stop, to no avail.
Then the buckles holding the strap onto the bag broke off - they were plastic - and the bag dropped back down.
Thankfully, the only damage is that I need a new bag. Well, that and the year and a half that got scared out of my life...
