My new washing machien has one major problem: I can't figure out what eighty percent of the controls are meant to do. As is my habit, I checked the manual; it was printed in something like eight different languages, none of which told me what most of the symbols on the control dial meant.

I'm hoping that it's just that I'm stupid, and that the controls are blindingly obvious to other people who care to look?

The snowflake thingy might be a cold water rinse? It seems to come at the end of the cycles. The others to the bottom right could be drain, wring (where it goes around really fast to get the water out, whatever that's called) and maybe add fabric softener? The orange ones on the outside I have no idea about. I'd try experimentally running something through that it's hard to hurt, like a plain sheet, trying different cycles and just seeing what it does.

My guess (and it is only a guess) is that the leaflike symbol on the upper right is for either permanent press (if that exists in Greece) or delicate, because it has the shortest times listed, and my machine's PP cycle has shorter times. I'd say that might be delicate. Based on the layout, I'd say (clockwise from lower left) heavy duty wash (90 minute cycle), medium wash (60 minute cycle), delicate wash, special settings that I have no idea about. Is there any way you could scan in the instructions in multiple languages? We might be able to figure them out.

I don't have ready access to a scanner; one more thing on my "to get once my finances are truly stable" list.

And one thing that I forgot: I think the numbers on the dial may be temperatures in Celsius, not times. There's a separate indicator for times. (And the "30" where the dial is set in the picture is next to one of the few icons explained - delicates - and I know from experience that the delicates cycle takes an hour.)

Maybe. I think that if I could figure out the three orange icons - the leaf, the flask, and the cloud - I might be able to get somewhere...

I'm not an expert, but the lower right symbol like a coiled hose indicates a spin cycle; the one above and to the right is probably a pre-wash cycle. The numbers are probaby the wash temperatures. And I think the feather section is for delicates. But I'm not 100% sure!
