Report from Nanook of the Mediterranean

Safer to walk in the streets than on the sidewalks today; normally, that'd be taking one's life in one's hands, but the sidewalks in Athens are often pretty, elegant, shiny ... and as tough to walk on as glare ice in this weather. The streets at least offer a little traction, and there's almost nothing on the roads today. The city's almost like a ghost town.
I'm used to work days with weather like this, back in New York and surrounding environs; that may be why I was almost the only one to show up at the office this morning. I was shooed out by the office manager, whose welcome was basically: "great to see you, and why the hell did you come in today?"
Some societal recalibration seems to be in order.
