Why would it be racist, considering that Barry Bonds is the one taking the run at the record?
Personally, I'm hoping Hank Aaron remains the home run king because there's relatively little chance he earned that record through heavy use of steroids. But that's me. :P
Ditto. I was just reacting to a set of columns on the ESPN website about a racial divide over Bonds' run at the record. And yeah, I'm prepared to believe that Hammerin' Hank did it the old-fashioned way, in addition to facing pressure that would have caused Barry to fold like an air mattress with a six-inch rip down the seam.
(And yeah, I know that one shouldn't take ESPN at face value. Yankees fans are starting to refer to ESPN as NESN 2 (NESN being the New England Sports Network, home of the Bloody Sock).)
Not at all. Purist, maybe. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that. If his record is ever to be broken I want it done honestly not by some juiced up hitter (no matter what his race/ethnicity are). But racist? Nope. Not in the least.
