It's nice here in the islands, but there are a few downsides. Communication with the outside world is spotty, for one; connection to the information superhighway is intermittent and fairly expensive, for another.

Got asked a question which will take more rigorous research than can be done over an intermittent dial-up connection. Someone in my family needs to know if the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a non-profit organization. I've tried researching it, but the progress of technology means that the Web is less and less well-suited to a sub-56k connection.

Might someone with a decent connection (and the time to spare, natch) check and see whether Memorial Sloan-Kettering is a non-profit organization or not? Any info would be appreciated; just stick it in a comment to this entry.

Thank you kindly, one and all.

Extract from this (http://www.viragen.com/pressreleases/1999/virpr120699.htm) 1999 press release suggests that is was:

"The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, a not-for profit New York corporation, is the world’s oldest and largest private institution devoted to patient care, research and education in cancer. ..."

and this link from Cancer Resources (http://cancerresources.mednet.ucla.edu/6_community/6a_center.htm)
"Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City is the world's oldest and largest private institution devoted to prevention, patient care, research, and education in cancer."
suggests that it still is...
