So I came back to hear half a conversation between my dad and my cousin (my dad's sister's daughter in this case). My dad's sister, I guess my oldest aunt (one year older than my dad) is very sick, fighting cancer and apparently losing.

Makes you very cognizant of the passage of the years. Or at least it does me.
