Sixteen days.

Just got my return ticket to New York adjusted, to give me enough time to get home and begin to adjust before taking the course which I need to take in order to maintain my license to practice law.

I return to New York on Wednesday, April 18 ... which is sixteen days from today.

Where did the time go?

And when do I return? (Not that I don't want to be back stateside, back in New York, but you know, I've got committments here in Athens...)

Landlady reports that the water leak has been staunched. With luck, there shouldn't have been damage beyond a need to repaint the ceiling.

So those reading along at home may have noted two facts:

1) I'm a fan of the New York Yankees.
2) I'm a third of a planet away from the nearest baseball broadcast.

Simple solution: sign up for Internet broadcasts, right? Wrong. Because my billing address is still in New York, the MLB machines think that I'm still in New York, so they thoughtfully and helpfully black me out.

Now, I'm on a five-day trial plan - I'd budgeted the money for this expense, figuring I'd want to sign up for it. I hadn't figured on being locked out from seeing the one team I wanted to see.

So I call customer service. And I get disconnected. I call from Skype, they think I never connected. I call using one of the cheap-call services they've got here in Greece, they think I never connected. And if anyone thinks I'm going to call using standard international rates ... I've got a bridge to sell.

Frustrating, that I can't hold that connection long enough to talk to someone - it's like I keep getting kicked to the back of the line.

Grr. Arrgh.

And I'm starting to twitch. Baseball = sanity.

Distance

According to what Google spat up in a search, the distance from New York to Athens is 4,934 miles, or 7,941 kilometers. Right now, I think I can feel every inch of that distance, down in my bones.

Days like this, it doesn't seem to matter that I'm a stone's throw away from middle age, or that I'm supposed to be successful wherever I go.

Days like this, I just want to find my way back home.
