A few weeks back, I went to a Barnes & Noble to see if I could find one of two books for my dad for a birthday present. I was looking for The Once and Future King, and The Forever War.
I was looking in the wrong place for The Once and Future King, so I didn't find it until a subsequent visit and a query at the customer service desk. I did know roughly where to look for The Forever War - sci-fi, author Joe Haldeman - so off I went.
And found a shelf and a half of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter books.
And no Forever War.
I retreated in time to avoid major brain damage. Emphasis on "major", because I haven't been feeling quite myself ever since.
(Afterword: a week later, I did find The Forever War. But the proximity to the Anita Blakes was still scary.)
