I read the papers over the net, here in Athens. And my blood runs cold.

Who determines who's innocent, who's guilty? Who decides who is entitled to fundamental human rights?

Who watches the watchers?

The quote's taken out of context, I know, but here goes:

"We've made too many compromises, too many retreats ... not again! The line must be drawn here - this far and no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done!"

Among the things that were going on today, I was helping out (in my role as expert on English trade-language and novice legal beagle) with a lease agreement, or rather a lease pre-agreement, since the guy who owned the building in question wanted it that way.

Either that, or one of his various advisers wanted it that way. Of course, that depended on which adviser you were talking to, and the partner I was backing up had gotten calls from all his advisers, with at least three different stories. The partner and I agreed that the best thing to do was tell them to get together all in one room, decide what they wanted, and pick someone to let us know.

I finally told the partner the joke about how lawyering would be a wonderful profession if it weren't for the clients.

She must have really been stressed; she laughed a lot more than that joke deserved. Even wanted to make up a sign quoting it, to put on the wall of her office.

Close entry.
