A weekend

Blah sort of day.

Spent the morning being IT Guy, figuring out why nobody was able to send out e-mail.

Important note: apparently Cablevision of New Jersey now insists that e-mails be sent out through its own mail servers, rather than something like Yahoo, if you're working with their cable modem service. Problem fixed.

Got me to thinking: I was carrying around Cortana, checking the e-mail against dial-up connections, the router, and the direct hook into the cable modem, and it felt slightly reminiscent of the SGC - what with all the Dells they seem to be using.

I could almost imagine the two or three poor shnooks who drew the assignment of computer techs for Stargate Command - maybe one of them wants to see if an iBook would work better for the tasks they need, except the Pentagon calls back and says, "dude, you're getting a Dell"?

Or trying to convince the sales rep that no, we don't want the three-year warranty with on-site maintenance for all those computers Dr. Weir ordered, 'cause where they're going, the Dell techs can't possibly follow?

And do they have wireless networking in Cheyenne Mountain? 'Cause that would probably take some heavy-duty encryption.

And I hate to imagine their relationship with Samantha Carter: when she logs into the SGC network, they might just put on a pot of extra-strong coffee, 'cause when she's fiddling with things, IT is in for a looooooong day...

Randomness.

How bad is it?

After seeing the headlines all weekend, and watching the Yankees get swept, I found myself cheering on the Chicago White Sox tonight (they're playing the Red Sox).

I may be in need of an intervention here.
