After the wedding
May. 30th, 2004 01:02 amPosted several missives on the wedding today, but they went through text messaging, which I have learned has its flaws.
Guy getting married was a friend of mine, dating back to when we were toddlers; his dad and my dad were graduate students together, and I think they were both involved in the Old Undershirt brewery. Made me think some about how fast the time passes.
Still haven't quite shaken the cough; I suffered a small fit while at the dinner table at the wedding reception, and an elderly gent sitting next to me said that perhaps I should cut back on smoking.
I guess back in the day, smoker's cough was a more common affliction, so the suggestion may have made sense. Except for one niggling little detail: how does one cut back one's smoking from zero?
I haven't had a cigarette since D-Day, I told the guy. I may have been a little too huffy about it.
My brother picked up the habit in college; he's tried several times to kick it, failing each time, though I think he may have managed to go for long stretches without smoking. He seems to fall back into the habit, though. Me, I had breathing problems growing up, and cigarette smoke adversely affected me; I can't think of anything that would cause me to light up. Not fame, not money, not sex.
*thinking*
On second thought ... I'll stand by what I said.
