goddamned Microsoft.

I went to look at my review notes before going to bed - just to brush up - and suddenly Microsoft Word refused to start up. Normally I'd say good riddance, except that my note files are in Word outline format and I can't open them up to do a damned thing.

I tried uninstalling Word three times, tried installing a different copy of Word, and every time, I get to the Word splash screen and my laptop locks up.

I've now spent about four hours trying to fix the goddamn thing, and it looks like I'm only gonna get four hours' sleep tonight. Not good.

Not good at all.

*groan*

So I've tried everything I can think of, and my next logical step is to reinstall absolutely. Frelling. Everything. On the laptop.

Massive backing up to the desktop hard drive in progress now.

Upside: family has a spare laptop I can borrow.

Downside: massive MASSIVE pain in the neck and lower down the spinal column.

I can't begin to tell you how much I do not need this.

Grr.

Arrgh.

In more personal news: backed up just about everything on my laptop (but forgot my bookmark file, which I will have to painstakingly reconstruct over the next few months), and finally gave up and reformatted it and reinstalled the OS. There are still many, many programs to install, so tonight may well be another hellishly late night ... but I intend to have it all done tonight.
