Asked by [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27; answered by a brain-dead ruin of a person.

And to keep the meme rolling, if you want me to ask you five, just comment and I'll do my best.

Asked and answered:

1. I've always wondered this -- where does your online name come from?

My first immersion in fandom was the Cross and Stake board, where I initially just signed my posts "BK". Then I realized that it was far too generic, and went looking for something to make it more unique. I never posted regularly enough to become a recognized regular (and dropped off their radar when I hit the most intense part of law school), so I just called myself "the irregular". I signed my first fanfics that way, and figured it'd be a good idea to keep the handle for consistency.

2. Pick five words to describe yourself.

Rational. Emotional. Caring. Panicky. Stubborn.

3. You've got a time machine, and you can go anywhere you like in history, forward or back. Where are you heading?

The year 2150, I suppose. Near enough to now that I might have a chance of understanding the world, far enough from now that if the human race hasn't wiped itself out, it'll have learned a lot of the lessons we need to learn...

4. Your plane has crashed on a desert island where there's food, water and lots of coconuts but no people. Do you settle in and await possible rescue, or build a raft to try to escape, even though the risk is greater?

I'd build the raft. I'd go nuts just marking time waiting for something to break in my favor (and I don't trust my luck that far).

5. You have been appointed supreme deity for the day. What miracle would you perform?

This is gonna be a long one ...

I would impart on the human race the wisdom to see the consequences of their actions upon other people, near and far, immediately and down through the centuries. So many miseries have been visited on the human race because the people in charge were too [censored] short-sighted to see what was bound to happen.

It's not just the people in the halls of power who need that understanding, either. It's the man in the mob who throws the first stone at the cornered victim; it's the preacher who refuses to admit the possibility that there is any way to enlightenment beyond his own, and condemns those who do not do his bidding to burn for eternity; it's the schoolboy who torments a weaker child, reacting with glee when the torture finally elicits tears.

Any other miracle would be wasted, I think, because the human race in its wilful ignorance teeters on the brink of self-destruction. And forcing them into a particular mind-set would be abhorrent. Grant them wisdom, give them empathy ... and maybe there'd be a chance...

Would you believe that if you use the latest version of the Microsoft Flight Simulator, there is a free add-on program that will allow you to fly a Nimbus broomstick?

*laughs*
