I figured I might as well sign up for an ICQ account yesterday - it's just one more connection for Trillian to use, doesn't cost me anything. So I went through the process on the ICQ web site, put in my e-mail address, and waited for the e-mail to come through.

It didn't.

I clicked the button saying "Send the confirmation e-mail again."

Nothing happened.

So today, I go to check my mail, see that there's a spam message, and dump it into the spam filter folder that AOL provides. Then I go and have a look at what the spam filter's caught.

And lookee, lookee, there are those ICQ confirmation messages I never got. Nicely caught by the spam filter.

I think I've come up with a new analogy. Spammers may claim they have the right to send you their stuff, that it doesn't harm anything - but it's like blowinng an air horn in your ear 24/7. Not only is it annoying, but some real information is going to get lost.

Grr.
