Albany? [censored] Albany?

I got my admission ticket for the New York State bar exam in the mail today. Shiny.

It tells me that I have to be at my assigned seat at 8:30am on Tuesday the 25th. Okay.

It tells me this seat is in the state capital complex of New York. Albany.

One hundred forty-seven miles away. Two and a half hours by car assuming no traffic and no cops watching the speed traps. When they do testing in New York City, which is, by comparison, a hop, a skip, and a jump from my home.

Albany.

Gaah.

*sigh* Looks like I'm overnighting it. And then the day after that, it's back to New Jersey.

Oh, and the downtown hotel in Albany where I called to check if they had a room: they began by giving me the sales pitch.

Me: "I'd like a room for the evening of the 24th."

Them: "Yes. We are a full-service hotel with exercise center, yada yada yada, humina humina humina-"

Me: (reaching for aspirin) "I'd like a room on the evening of the 24th."

Them: "I'm sorry, we are fully booked on that day."

Me: *snap of closing cell phone*

You know, mobile telephone technology is a wonderful thing, but it's never gonna replace the visceral satisfaction you get from slamming the receiver down on some yahoo who just succeeded in making you waste your time...

Maybe not such a bad day after all

Snow keeps coming down. Have to study more tomorrow, concentrate on motions practice, but it's a reminder that yes, this is winter, which is not such a bad thing.

Down side: watching the news. Wondering if the nation's leaders have forgotten that they're the ones who swore to serve.

Up side: my dad got a package at work today. An elegant laptop about the size of a spiral notebook, which clips to a base that makes a CD drive very easily accessible. Nice machine. All set up now; my good deed for the day. I hope he's happy with it.

He starts radiation treatments sometime in the next couple of weeks. Don't quite know when.

And I finally found lodging for the night before the first day of the bar. Two weeks from tomorrow, it begins.
